From a woman interviewed: “I never imagined I would return home and find myself living in my car…what hurts the most is that people don’t even see me – I have become invisible here.”

Many of these women are single mothers or primary caregivers who have lost housing due to domestic violence, divorce, or financial hardship.  Some women are too frightened to stay at a shelter or transitional home that houses males as well as female veterans. Some of them work every day, drive their children to school and still rely on their vehicle for housing and safety. The rising housing costs and limited access to childcare have further compounded these challenges. The GG was established to respond to this urgent and growing need by providing gender-specific, trauma-informed transitional housing that welcomes women and their children. Core services include case management, life-skills development, employment readiness, and connections to community and veteran support systems.
